The Rolling Stones Delighted Ohioans Everywhere with a Cover of ‘Hang On Sloopy’: Watch

Over the weekend, the Rolling Stones were certainly hyper aware of what zip code they were in, when their Zip Code tour hit Columbus, Ohio.

They covered “Hang on Sloopy,” a No. 1 hit in 1965 for the McCoys. But it was more than just a nod to Rick Derringer’s former group (you knew that the “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” singer got his start in the McCoys, right?).

For those of you not familiar with the culture of the Ohio State Buckeyes, let us explain.

The song has been a fixture at Buckeyes games for about a half century now; it is traditionally played before the fourth quarter of every one of their football games. So the band playing the song in Ohio Stadium, where the Buckeyes play, is of course a very fitting tribute.
